The Holiday Wine Club Release will be available for club member pick-up (or shipped, depending on your instructions) beginning the weekend of Dec 28/29. For this weekend, we will be serving tasty bites specially chosen to pair with these wines.

Tannat ($20 introduction retail price) is a new offering of a unique varietal (click
here for more info) originating in the Madiran region of South West France (Basque country, in the Pyrénées foothills).  Basque mid-1800's immigration to Uruguay, has resulted in Tannat also migrating to that region, where it is now the national red wine (similar to the story of Malbec in Argentina).

In California, Solune is one of only a handful of vineyards growing Tannat, with Tablas Creek in Paso Robles, being the main driving force behind Tannat.  Jacques discovered Tannat while judging in Argentina and France and was sufficiently impressed to plant 3 trial rows in our own vineyard.  It turned out to be our best terroir match so far, with the young vines producing great fruit even during the more challenged 2010 & 2011 growing seasons.  This first release is a non-vintage blend from our first 3 harvests from these 3 experimental rows.  We recently grafted over an additional 10 rows and will eventually be able to produce, along with our 3 rows of Petite Sirah (a natural ally of Tannat), enough grapes (3-4 tons), an annual vintaged Tannat release containing about 20% Petite Sirah (i.e., below the allowed 25% for other varietals).

To introduce Tannat as a varietal on Dec. 28/29, we will hold a comparative tasting with Tannats from France (Madiran, brought back by Jacques on his last trip to France), Uruguay and California (Tablas Creek).  This will be a unique wine club only opportunity to get acquainted with this wonderful varietal and see how well the Solune Tannat fits in this notable company.
Don't miss it !

On a lighter note, Tannat is our first
palindrome wine.  It can also be easily inserted into many sentences. What's tannat like about that !  It can even revitalize classic lines such as "To be or tannat be, that is the question !"  We would like to start a collection of such nuggets, so go to our Facebook page to add some of your own (prizes will be awarded to the best ones !).

We have been out of Cabernet Franc ($21 introduction retail price) for awhile and we are very happy to see it back in the line-up.  This one has great oak integration allowing the varietal character of the wine to shine.

Your credit card was charged for the 20% discounted price plus applicable taxes, shipping and packaging. The cost for pickup at the winery, include local sales tax is $35.30. For our out-of-town members, unless you tell us otherwise, the wines will be shipped according to your prior directions.

Don’t forget one of your Member Benefits:  Bring along your friends and out of town visitors to Solune and they will receive your Wine Club Discount on their purchases.

We are open year-round every weekend from 12 to 5.

Hope to see you on Dec. 28-29!
