May 2009 Release
May 9-10 Wine Club Release
2007 Verdelho (Portugal) & 2005 Tempranillo (Spain)
Dear Wine Club Member:
Plan on visiting the winery on Saturday or Sunday, May 9-10th for our Spring Wine Club release, featuring two varietals from the Iberian Peninsula. On that weekend only, we will have selected appetizers and tasty tidbits paired with these wines.
• 2005 Tempranillo: This full-bodied red wine continues the tradition started with its much celebrated (double gold medal winner) 2004 predecessor, combining intensity and smoothness, as well as great oak integration complementing the fruit with rich toffee and vanilla notes. Retail: $23 (750ml)
• 2007 Verdelho: A major white Portuguese varietal, Verdelho offers the rare combination of crisp but refreshing lemon-lime acidity with a generous mouth feel, overlaid with exotic pear and peach aroma/flavor notes. Great match for fish, shellfish, poultry and salads. Retail: $16 (750 ml)
Your credit card will be charged for the 20% discounted price plus applicable taxes, shipping and packaging. The cost for pickup at the winery, including local sales tax will be $33.81. For our out-of-town members, unless you tell us otherwise, the wines will be shipped according to your prior directions and total cost will include local tax & shipping rates. Don't forget the friends' benefit for Members: Bring along your friends and out of town visitors to Solune and they will enjoy the benefits of your Wine Club discounts. We are open every weekend from 12 to 5.
Hope to see you on the 9-10th !
A Votre Santé,
Andrea & Jacques,
Your March wine club release will be ready soon. This release includes two tasting room favorites, our 2004 Clarksburg Petite Sirah (Salman Vineyards) and our Souvenir 2005 Port. One of your Wine Club benefits is to have priority on wines that are almost sold out. The Petite Sirah inventory is getting low, but we have enough for this club release and for extra purchases to stock up your cellar. We are also including the Souvenir Port because it is the perfect wine to enjoy at this time of year.
Here's more on these wines:
• 2004 Petite Sirah (Salman Vineyards, Clarksburg) - This area of California is known for premium Petite Sirah. Dark berry aromas and flavors dominate this chewy wine, complemented by generous but smooth varietal tannins. A long, powerful and velvety finish follows. It is a perfect companion for barbeque.
Retail $22/750 ml bottle
• 2005 Souvenir Port (Amador County) - Made from five traditional grape varieties that originate in the Douro Valley in Portugal, this young port is delicious now, and will also age beautifully in your cellar for 10-20 years. Try this rich wine with any blue-veined cheese or dark chocolate for a real treat.
Retail $18/500 ml bottle
This release will be available beginning Saturday March 17th, to be picked up at the winery or shipped according to your request. Your credit card will be charged during the preceding week for the 20% discounted price plus applicable taxes, shipping and packaging. The cost for pickup at the winery, including local sales tax, will be $34.36. Cost for shipped orders will be different depending on local tax rate & shipping costs.
Remember that when you pick up (or receive) your wine, the 20% discount will be extended to any additional purchases of the released wines and, for a period of 2 weeks after the release, to all wines. For those of you picking up your wines on the weekend of the 17th, we will also be offering blue cheese and dark chocolate to pair with your wine club release tastings.
Wine Trivia - Since last Dec 20th, the word Port (along with 15 other words, such as Sherry, Madeira, Champagne, etc) can no longer be used on US labels unless the wine is made in the original country. In return, this EU-US trade agreement will further open up the EU market to US wines. As a result, we were required to eliminate the word "Port" from our label. This does not change the wine - you just need to remember that our Souvenir 2005 Port was vinified in the traditional Portuguese manner and that the wine is delicious.
International Honors - Jacques has been selected/invited to be a wine judge at the largest & most prestigious international wine competition in France, "Vinalies", taking place in Paris this March. He will be joining wine judges from around the world and, as an added benefit to all this "hard work" (but somebody has to do it !), he will join the group for a wine region discovery tour in the south of France. Jacques will certainly bring back a few stories from this adventure and perhaps even a few bottles of wine to share!
Remember to pick up your wine club release beginning on March 17th.
Hope to see you then!
A Votre Santé
